Auto Waala Ride.

They say Karma comes back. After years of experience I’ve come to believe my karma stares me in the face in the form of auto rides.
My life’s journey everyday now, is on a path of becoming a human being greatly conscious of my unwitting behavior, not because I believe in reincarnation or uplifting humanity but purely because I need to take a bloody auto the moment I step out of home! Karma can be the only  explanation to my auto rides always being a bitch!

So I’ve decided to blog my experiences and reach out to brother /sisters out there, who face similar public transport karma’s (I may well be alone on  this one!)

Eunuch - A Blessing In Disguise?

Beliefs, a ‘scientifically proven’ fact or ‘way of living’ of many sanctities intrigues me in general. Today, somebody I started a conversation with, set the wheel spinning again, creating an oxymoron between the belief and it’s way of living.

Unsure at most times on what the politically or emotionally correct way of addressing these people is, I choose the word ‘Didi’. After convincing her that I really don’t have change, I started to generally observe their status quo.
In our society today, being a ‘Chakka’ is the biggest misfortune, but the presence of these misfortunates is considered auspicious on many occasions. Strange?! I think so to.

So how does dissociation long for association suddenly? Eunuchs today may have regressed in identity, but history holds them in high honour.

Lord Shiva
One of the forms of Lord Shiva merges with Parvati where together they’re Ardhanari, a form especially worshipped in North India

The Ramayan
In some versions of the Ramayan, when Ram leaves Ayodhya for his 14-year exile, a devoted mass follows him into the forest. Seeing this, he tells them not to mourn, and that all the "men and women" of his kingdom should return to their places in Ayodhya. When he returns after 14 years, he finds that the Eunuchs, being neither men nor women, have not moved from the place where he gave his speech. Impressed with their devotion, Ram grants them the boon to confer blessings on people during auspicious inaugural occasions like childbirth and weddings.

The Mahabharat
Mahabharata includes an episode in which Arjun, a hero of the epic, is sent into an exile. There he assumes an identity of a Eunuch and performs rituals during weddings and childbirths that are now performed by the lot we see.
Also in the Mahabharat, before the Kurukshetra War, Ahiravan offers his lifeblood to goddess Kali to ensure the victory of the Pandavas. On the night before the battle, Aravan expresses a desire to get married before he dies. No woman was willing to marry a man doomed to die in a few hours, so Krishna assumes the form of a beautiful woman called Mohini and marries him. In South India, Eunuchs claim Aravan as their progenitor and call themselves "aravanis."

In Islam
In Hyderabad, a group of Muslim converts were circumcised, something seen as the quintessential marker of male Muslim identity. The nirvan operation (removal of all male genitalia) is generally seen as an exaggerated circumcision ritual. In addition to these "male" rituals, the eunuchs took on "female" practices from Islam such as veiling.

Ek Thi Daayan

Ek Thi Daayan is Kannan Iyer's directorial debut. The film’s story line is pretty simple and though many call it regressive and stereotyping, I think such stories need to be taken with a pinch of salt, just like the other mythological fantasies we follow.

To begin with, it would not really have been my first preference on the list of ‘the last thing you end your weekend with’ but because the credits had a Vishal Bhardwaj association and Yaaram, a song I like very much,I decided to test my mettle.

Ek Thi Daayan is the story of a young magician named Bobo (Emran Hashmi). Unresolved childhood mysteries eternally haunt him. Was it all a figment of an unhappy child’s playground, or were those incidents for real? Without answers his professional life, his relationships and peace of mind are all at the brim of insanity. Will he be able to tread the line between the two worlds?

Konkana Sen Sharma, Huma Qureshi and Kalki have all done a decent job, given their roles didn’t really have scope for ground breaking performances.

Inspite the fact that Kanan has avoided the usual RGV route of blood dripping, black crow flying over twisted heads, the first half of the film nicely builds up intrigue. But the last half hour seemed all about giving the latest technology in washing machines a run for their money – things started spinning out of control!!!
Many loose ends in the dialogues, storyline, character establishment made the perfect recipe for “spook to spoof, bus do minute main!” .

So for the supernatural starved Indian audience, let’s encourage attempts till we develop our very own ‘Six Sense'

For the others who cant get enough of Wicca, which is typically duotheistic, worshipping a god and goddess traditionally viewed as a mother goddess and horned god, you can now learn more from Ipsita Roy who started her Wiccan work in India many decades ago.

A Short Story

40% of the population of a village in southwest China's Sichuan Province are dwarves. Between the 1920s and 1970s residents in Yangsi village started to suffer from a mystery condition that particularly struck children aged between 5 to 7. The main symptom was that the children stopped growing any taller. Experts visited the village many times, testing the water, soil, grain, and examining those affected, but were unable to discover the cause of the condition. Today, around 80 people live in the village and 36 of them are between 0.8m to 1.4m tall.

PETA KILLS

This morning I came across an article which not just enraged me, but it's become a struggle to keep my insides from sprawling all over the floor.

I'd like to give every news worthy of printing the benefit of doubt, but when it has been supported by government visits and pictures, I’d beg for someone to come forward and please tell us all otherwise.

Some argue that it’s best to put an end to an absolutely healthy abandoned animal’s life, rather then leaving it out on the street to die, fending for itself.
Then, I’d say the same should be true for all human beings who are homeless, beggars etc

If PETA strongly believes in this philosophy than they should openly come out and say exactly that instead of lying to owners about finding a shelter! At least I feel less guilty if somebody else kills a life I chose to take care of and selfishly abandoned. The guilt reduces somehow, right?!!!

It has been revealed that PETA has killed over 30,000 dogs, cats, rabbits and other domestic animals who were entrusted to PETA by families in hope of rehoming their TOYS.

Bade Kaam ki Hum Cheez hain Yaram

The first time I heard Yaram, it was amidst a lot of distraction. By the time the melody caught my attention, the song had reached the chorus with lyrics like ‘tumhari filein, tumhara laptop, ghar ki chabiyaan…’ which distinctly reminded me of the song ‘meri laundry ka ek bill’ from Rock On and my excitement died down a little. I was still divided, something in the song had caught my attention but my distraction was only pulling me away, trying to label it as ‘just another song’, it succeeded but only till Sunidhi Chauhan hit the notes for ‘aur yeh dil, kanwara dil…pyaar mein haara bechara dil!’

Ek Thi Daayan is brought to us by Vishal Bhardwaj, THAT is what didn’t allow me to dismiss it as ‘just another song’  the man is known to make melody dance to his tunes. This time he’s out done himself by composing music for lyrics written by Gulzaar, brought to life by Sunidhi!

Suraj se pehle hum jagaenge
Aur akhbaar ki sab surkhiyaan
Hum Gungunaenge

Koi khabar na aye pasand to end badal denge
Muh khuli jamaye per hum bajayein chutkiyaan
Dhoop na tumko lage kholdenge chatriyaan

Bade kaam ki hum cheez hain yaram….
I’m loving it!
