farz, mohabbat, zindagi ke maa’ine badal diye
is aam si dhadkan ko ek makhsoos wajah mil gayi
Kabhi khariyaat puchne ke bahane,
ya chai ki piyaali lotane
roz dastak de to thi
salaam arz karne ke bahane
Door gulistan ko dhagoon mein piroti tum
roz ek jo tuut kar gir jaata
faasloon ko mehkane ka bahana tha
Shaam ki ojhal roshni mein
tumhari perchai ban jaon
tamanna yahi thi
yeh shama’ to sirf ek bahana tha
Kabhi tum kuch kaho
kabhi mein sunu
alfazoon ne ki na kabhi zurrat
nazrein milane ka jo bahana tha
Din bane hafte,
yunhi guzar gaya ek saal,
soz ki shaama jalti rahi
arzoo mein junoon behaal
Unki mohabbat justajoo si rahi
bepanhaa ishq ankahi si rahi
chitthi likhne ki himmat ki humne
mulaqqat ki khwaish, yeh jurrat ki humne
Woh lamha jise kainaat ko tha intezaar
le ayaa hathoon ek paigaam
sarfaroshi ki kasmein, Sar zameen ki hafazaat ka elaan
khidmat ka tha vaasta
Milne ka ek waada, aur kuch baatein hazaar
yun hi tabassum se rukhsat le,
chal diye us paar
Apne jannat ki khaanum bana bethe
tumhari ‘haan’ to sirf ek bahana tha
husne shamsher per sab kuch luta bethe
Us roz barooton ke tukdon ne
kai chulhe bhigo diye
gesuon ke daaman mein be-dum hoon
aur sabhi tasawwur mita diye
Anginnat shaheedon mein naam likh gaye
ek aur dastaane’ ishq ko rusva kar gaye
dhaage se tutt kar bikhar gaye
kuch sapne kuch phool
baimaan taqdeer taale massal gaye
Wafaat to sirf ek bahan tha
kabr per tumhe aana hi tha
ab - dida ko aaj yateem na karo
ek akhri mulaqaat ka wadaa nibhana tha

It would have been great in Hindi script. Transliterated stuff is always really really hard to read. So basically what I'm saying is that my eyes hurt after the first two lines and I haven't read it. But I read the meanings of random words and it all sounds very beautiful. Why the Urdu poetry?
ReplyDeleteVow.. How ???
ReplyDeleteI liked
Zulfoon ke hijab se ek chitwan
chehre ki noor ko panaah mil gayi
is aam si dhadkan ko ek makhsoos wajah mil gayi
my try....
Ab kaifiyat kuch aisi hai...
ki har saans ko ek muktasar si mehak mil gayi...
jane se pehle hayaat hone ki Ek wajah to milgayi...
Gargoyle - read it! bloody hell i think it's a masterpiece:)
ReplyDeleteJust for you (very rough):
He finds himself stunned by nature’s pride and vanity. Dedicated to a cause, a moment in his life changes the meaning of what he knew as responsibility, love and belief.
That was the moment he saw the light on her face hidden under the modesty of her tresses. ‘In that moment, was the air moist, or was it you that made me skip a beat?’
Suddenly he didn’t want to be a martyr, as he considered himself finished by her beauty, anyway.
He’d visit her neighborhood sometimes to check on things or her home to return empty cups once laden with generous tea. All an excuse to say hello.
He’d watch her weave garlands as the days passed by. She dropped a few sometimes, all an excuse to fragrant the distance that was between them.
As the evening dawned he wanted to become her shadow but providing her with an oil lamp as light was just an excuse.
Sometimes he’d say something, sometimes she. But words were never spoken. Days turned into a year, her desire kept burning the fire of passion. His search for her love continued, his undying, unsaid love continued. he finally wrote her a letter. Dared to request her presence and solitary moments.
Finally arrived that moment, for which his universe awaited. But it was a letter of promises made, of love of valor, to the country. He couldn’t wait for her reply, but seeked her smiles permission to leave. He left with a promise to meet, of words to share. Her answer was just an excuse she ruled already.
That day the shells fell hard and extinguished many burning stoves. That day another name was added to the list of martyrs, another story was left unwritten.
To breathe his last in the lap of her tresses and many such dreams were unlived. Destiny played dirty.
‘Please don’t orphan the tears from your eyes. My death was just an excuse. You had to visit my grave, the moment is now complete with an incomplete promise to meet.’
Anonymous - loved your version. thankyou.
ReplyDeleteYou're right - it is beautiful! Read your translation and then went back and read the Hindi version. Now that you've wrapped up the film, maybe you can write another :)
